Digital-Tutors – Enhancing Your Concepts with Textures in Photoshop

Description:
We’ll begin this training by starting with a sketch of our forest creature, along with visualizing the environment that our concept exists in. From there, we’ll spend several lessons using some different methods of blocking in textures to develop and evolve the look of our forest creature. As we apply our textures we’ll be working in grayscale so that we can focus on maintaining our values first.

Once our textures have been blocked in, we’ll begin to refine our concept and learn how to apply color. We’ll finish our concept by exploring how to place our forest creature into an environment that compliments his appearance.

By utilizing the methods of applying textures in this course you’ll be able to add more depth and personality to your own concepts.

Digital-Tutors – Skill-Builder: Interpretive Modeling in Maya

Description:
In this Skill-Builder tutorial, we will talk about the process of interpreting different shapes and creating geometry in efficient ways.

Going through tutorial projects step-by-step is a really powerful way to learn the different modeling tools and techniques. You can see how those tools work as you follow along and create a particular model with your tutor. In the end, you have created a specific model, but the real learning comes from being able to mentally break apart the different kinds of shapes you’ll encounter and find efficient methods for building those shapes. This knowledge and adaptability only comes from practice and the experience of dealing with different situations as they arise.

To simulate this, you’ll be presented with a series of modeling exercises. Each exercise will consist of three lessons. In the first lesson, we will review specific modeling skills and techniques using a particular asset. We’ll look at the reference and talk through the best methods for creating the model. In the second lesson, you’ll receive a new reference asset and instructions for the completing the exercise. This will be your opportunity to apply what you know to be able to build a completely different model.

In the final lesson, we will go through your exercise step-by-step and you can compare your results. There will be small hints provided for each exercise but we encourage you not to look at those if possible.

Intermediate | 1h 35m | 579.72 MB | Project Files: Included | Software used: 3ds Max 2010 and up

In this course we will build a stylized super-computer in 3ds Max. When building props and set pieces, even those of the more simplified variety, it's sometimes difficult to know where to start. It's also a challenge to create models that have a consistent visual style, not only within themselves, but with the characters and other props that inhabit that environment. In this course we will use the modeling tools in Max to build a cartoony super-computer. We'll explore modeling tools like connect edges, bevel, and extrude as well as spline-based tools that will allow us to build some of the different pieces of the model. In addition, we'll learn to use modifiers to achieve a cartoony, stylized look. Upon completion, you'll be able to start building up your own stylized props and set pieces to enhance the 3d worlds you create.
